Bushy Park
I grew up in Crumlin but left when I was 13. I seem to remenber playing in "Orwell Park". Is Bushy Park what I remenber as "Orwell Park"?

I remenber a river, sitting on the top of trees and using bicyles. Can you help?

Orwell Park
Hi Callo,

I was intrigued, so I dug around a bit...

About half a mile north-east of Bushy Park, there's a street called Orwell Park. I think the whole housing estate is called Orwell Park, so I would assume it used to be the park you talked about. I wonder how many other peoples' Dublin childhood haunts have gone the same way... countless I suppose.

The River Dodder runs very close to the present-day Orwell Park, so it definitely seems to fit your description.

If you go to the map of Rathfarnham on this site, drag the map so that Bushy Park is at the bottom left, and zoom in, you'll see Orwell Park centre right.

If you click on the satellite button, you'll see all those new houses. :-(
